Not much to write about!
Monday - I went for a 30 minute run after work and it was awesome! This is the best I have felt on a run in a long time, I felt like I could run forever:) After going grocery shopping I continued watching Grey's Anatomy (totally addicted...and I have watched them all once already). Chad called me up on his way home and asked if I wanted to take a cruise around the neighborhood on our bikes. As this was "unscheduled" Chad told me he wouldn't tell Greg if I didn't :) Hee hee. It was only about 30 min of riding around. Once we got home I did my best to not go swimming...but I did. I felt really good in the water again...good news.
Tuesday - All I did was go to work, make tacos for dinner, and watch Grey's anatomy....:)
Wednesday - Last night I was a little worried about doing my long run in the warmer weather...I hate fighting to keep my HR down. My Garmin won't turn on for some reason...so it was me and my heart rate. I think it was a good break to not know how fast I was running and only go by HR. I found it was easier to control my HR and I wasn't worried about how fast I was going. All and all it was a good run and with all of the rain we had the foliage was big and green...very pretty! I did 1:40 hrs run and when I got home I felt like I could keep going! Yay!
Tonight I am riding with the group and with the forecast hopefully I won't be hit with lightening :) Most people are tapering for the Oliver 1/2 this weekend, so maybe Greg will only work us half as much! I'll let you know how things are going leading into the weekend!
Happy Training everyone
ooooohhhh...and enjoy the sun!

Will it ever stop???
On Friday I went for a 45 min run and the clouds parted for a brief moment and I think I actually saw the sun! My legs were tired from the night before, but I surprisingly didn't feel too bad once I got out there. Later on that night I headed to the pool to get my swim in. I felt good in the water on Friday, maybe this means I am getting my swimming arms back! It has been awhile since I have had them ;) I was doing 4 sets of 6 x 50 m, with each set getting faster. I think I started out too hard because by the last set of 6 I could hardly breathe! Then again maybe that's the point!
Saturday was an interesting day....I ended up doing a whole lot of nothing. I got up in the morning and tinkered around with my bike and gathering up all of my crap (which seems to take much longer when planning to ride in the rain). Once Chad got up and got organised we decided to make a pit stop at MEC to get some waterproof booties. I found some, but they didn't have any in Chad's size . He took a jog to the bike shop down the street while I stood in the wonderfully long line up. We finally managed to both have our feet protectors and with one last stop to get gas we were off to Longview and Highway 40 where the closed highway is.
Having being delayed by an hour and a half already we were getting a little irritable with traffic, rain, trains. As we drove south and the weather steadily got worse we contemplated turning around, but kept on going despite our better judgement!
We got out there and it was POURING! Chad just looked at me like I was crazy...little did he know that there was no way I was getting out of the truck. Light rain I can bike in....pouring rain not so much. With that we turned around. By the time we got home it was late evening and there wasn't much left to do but suck it up and try again on Sunday.
Sunday morning I woke up to more and more RAIN! Arrrrrrggggghhhhh! After what we went through on Saturday I wasn't about to try it again so I put my bike on the trainer and got on. That's right 4 hours of riding done in front of the TV. I would have rather been outside, but it wasn't too bad. I hooked myself up with season 1 of Grey's Anatomy and I pedaled my heart out. Once I finished biking I went out for an easy 20 min run.
About an hour and a half after I was done we went out for dinner and I was starving! We went to the new Indianna Jones movie after dinner and that was 2 hours of my life I will never get back...never. Yes it was that bad, I wouldn't wish that on anyone!
Today I have a run and swim on the agenda....I suppose it to will be in the rainy weather. We are going to head out to Banff again on the weekend to bike so hopefully it is nice outside for next weekend! Happy Training!

WHEW!!!!
So I just got back from doing a ride with the Gregmiester himself and the crew (well, tonight the crew was Chantel:). I have had a busy couple of days so I figured I would blog while its fresh. I'll start with yesterday.
I have been tired this week...not body/training tired...it's more of I am feeling really lazy and would like to sleep in until noon everyday and then get up and train! When I think about it and if that opportunity presented itself it would be okay for the first couple of days and then I would be looking for something to do. ANYway (a little off topic I apologize), I went for my massage yesterday and I can sum it up in one word: OUCH!
It turns out when you beat up your body all of the time your muscles get tight! Who knew??? I was in rougher shape than last time I went in and just when I thought it couldn't possibly get worse he found somewhere else to poke which was worse! Oh the fun. I was working up a good sweat let me tell you!
My run was okay; not bad not good...just okay. I was tired by the time I got home afterwards but I think that was because I had been put through the ringer already. The rain let up last night so that was nice, with the cool air it was nice running weather.
So today I'm looking out the window at the rain and reading Greg's email saying that if it is pouring outside than we won't be riding. I wasn't sure what his version of pouring was but I had a funny feeling it wasn't the same as my version of pouring! I wanted to be sure so I called him up and yup I was right...definitely riding in the rain. What's more fun than biking in the cold and rain...doing hill repeats in it! Yeah!
We were to ride in Edworthy park, so I got some directions and googled it and had a pretty good idea of where I had to go. Well, I could not figure out what little dinky road to turn onto so I drove around edworthy park until I turned onto a random street and saw a sign pointing me in the direction of the park. My question is: why the hell don't they have signs on the main streets? What good are they if you can't find them????? Hmmmm.
This was my first ever actual hill repeat work out. I always thought that if you ride on hilly roads you get the same effect...WRONG! This was a whole new world of hill climbing! I think I need to do a lot more of these:) All and all it was a little cold, but not too bad. We were working hard enough to keep relatively warm!
Greg and Chantel decided to go for hot chocolate and since I was so late I decided to do a few more. Once I plugged up the hill a couple more times I thought hot chocolate sounded yummy! I am positive Greg said 37th and bow trail.....but with my crappy direction sense I couldn't see the cafe he was talking about so I called it a day and went home!
After a warm shower and pj's I feel much better (tired legs included:). Time to chill out and relax! Happy training everyone :) :) :)

Monday Ride
Our Monday ride started out looking not too bad and as we got closer to the mountains it looked something like this:
The beginning of the ride we decided against wearing our jackets (against my better judgement:). We were on out bikes for about a minute when we decided to turn around to put them on since it was pouring! The first half of the bike ride went something like this: Chad putting on his jacket, Chad stopping to take it off, Chad almost losing his jacket, it was pretty funny! Every time I looked back he wouldn't be there!
One of the many stops along our way! It was pretty hilly on the way out as well, I felt like we were constantly climbing! We stopped at the top of a big climb to have a pee break, get some food in and turn around and head back.
At the turn around:)
All done the ride, we were both cold and wet but happy to be done. We were flying on the way back and it felt awesome. When I finished I felt like I could keep on going which is a good thing! Three hours is a piece of cake now! Once we changed we went into Banff to have dinner. We ended up at Wild Bill's Pub, which had some yummy food. We were feeling tired after dinner so we passed on walking around and decided to call it a day!

Training Hard
Friday: On Friday it was 26 degrees outside and sunny! I went for my run at around 2:30 and right away found out that was a bad idea. I had the hardest time controlling my heart rate :( I was getting pretty frustrated....but this was the first time I had run in the heat since last summer! I made it through the 45 min and it really took it out of me!
Later that night I had to go swimming and I REALLY didn't want to! I wanted to park my butt for the night and leave it there. Chad was laying the guilt trip on me pretty thick about not going to the pool. After I threw a huge hissy fit and stormed out of the house to the pool I got there and realized I forgot my towel. CRAP! I called Chad and he told me to suck it up and use paper towel when I got out of the pool. Now I was SUPER DUPER mad about having to go swimming. I went anyway....without a towel (oh and they didn't have paper towel just air driers :) and swam. I actually had a really good swim after all the drama. When I was finished I didn't have time to get into the hot tub....I was cold and cranky...and then on my way to the change rooms Chad was sitting in the viewing gallery with a towel. I smiled and thanked him and it turned out to be not so bad!
On Saturday I woke up and got all of my stuff together to go for a ride (which takes a very long time to gather all of my gear....I need to work on that). I went out on Cowboy trail again and it was stinking hot! It was 30 degrees outside and beautiful! I loved it. I meticulously put on my sunscreen so I would not get a sunburn and I was off. Last time I was out here it took me 10 minutes longer on the way back (which I thought was due to the hills) so I turned around when I figured I would end up with a time of 3 hours 20 min. Not so much. It took me less time on the way back. I thought I was so clever planning out the wind blah blah blah and I STILL got it wrong. I am a rookie at this long ride thing but I would like the learning curve to be a little steeper. I ended up going out for 3 hours in the end. I think I need to work on my time adding skills :)
I got home to see that I had missed two little parts of skin with the sunscreen and now have two matching painful burns on my back. Oh the life! Once I got showered up Chad and I went and did some running around and the vegged for the rest of the night.
Sunday: I had to work on Sunday so I was up early to get my run in before work. My legs disagreed for about the first 20 min (mostly since I NEVER workout in the wee morning hours) and then I was feeling pretty good. I did a 60 min run with 15 min of tempo running. It was still warm out but there was a little cloud cover and I could keep my heart rate in check much better than on Friday.
After work I met up with Chad and Allan (chads coach) for dinner in celebration of him completing his powerlifting cycle! When I got home I tried everything to get out of going to the pool and when that didn't work I threw a little less of a hissy fit and went. Oh such a battle! I remembered my towel this time though!
Now today I am waiting for Chad (who is taking his sweet ass time) and we are going out to Banff for a ride. It is supposed to be raining...but anything can happen in the mountains and maybe we'll get lucky!
Oh yeah, when I was out biking on Saturday I saw a Moose! It was a big moose standing on the side of the road. I was a little wary because I didn't want it to charge me...but it looked pretty happy go lucky so I pushed on climbing up the hill. It looked at me with vague interest and kept on chewing! I wish I had my camera but I left it in my car....and even if I had that I forgot the memory card at home. Whoops!
Anyway we had better hit the road and maybe we'll see some critters today!

EZ couple of days
It has been an easy couple of days; Monday I took the day off of training and tried to get my house back in order after the weekend. From all of the rain and dirt on our bags/bikes/gear it then got deposited in my house...eeewwww.
Last night I did an easy 60 min bike. I set up my bike on the trainer and was trying to wipe off all of the dirt, there was no way that was going to happen. There was dirt in every nook and cranny! I took it off the trainer, hauled it downstairs and into my car which also needed to be washed. Lucy is now sparkling and shiny! So is my car ;) Since I had to work late and procrastinated so long and then had to go and wash everything I didn't get on my bike until around 9:30pm. I also seem to have misplaced my heart rate monitor strap...hmmmm.
The bike was good, actually I felt REALLY good for having raced just a couple of days ago! I feel better after the triathlon than I did after the 10km run in Medicine Hat??? Weird hey? I am in need of a massage, my hips and calves are a little tight! I think I might wait until next week after the long weekend....I'll really need it by then :)
Oh and I think Chad is hooked on Triathlon....mostly biking! He is talking about putting in a team for the Arbour Lake Tri, that way he gets to bike without swimming!
Happy Training Everybody!

Splash, Pedal, & Gasp Triathlon
So we started out the weekend celebrating Chad's Birthday. We went to Flames Central first and it was pretty cool in there. It was a nice atmosphere and would be a great place to watch a game. People came and went all night...for some reason it closed at 12...so we headed to another little pub for a drink. By this time everyone was pretty tired and we decided to call it a night! We had to get up and head to Lethbridge the next day.
The next morning I got up at around 10 and hopped on the bike for a quick ride and followed it up with a really short run. Just enough to get the muscles working!
The trip down went by fairly quickly and once we got to Lethbridge we went to pick up our race packages and then met up with some friends for dinner. I managed to fill up the hollow leg I seem to have lately I felt much better. We swung by Walmart to pick up a movie to watch. I chose PS I Love You...Chad was very excited about this!
We were staying at a friends place (who was in Edmonton...thanks Pat for letting us stay at your house:). We unloaded everything into the house and did some last minute prep and tinkering. When we figured we were ready for the race we poped in the movie and realxed for awhile. By 11:30 we were both falling asleep and we headed to bed.
Race morning we were up at the crack of dawn and headed out the door for breakfast. Guess what....it was raining! After breakfast we went to the race and got numbered and checked in. We went back and got our bikes and transition bags and tried to get organised in the rain!
Chad's race didn't start until 11...so he had a lot of time to kill, but he was able to get some pics of the swim and transition!
The swim was okay. The lane I was in was a mess, people were hugging the middle line and it was a congested fight all along. I was able to do a lot of drafting, but had to slow down to do so. Not the best swim, but I battled my way through and made it out and into transition in approximately 29 min.
The beginning of the run was the worst part of the race. I was trying to run on feet I couldn't feel and my asthma was acting up. At one point going down the hill I stopped and bent over until I could finally control my breathing enough to keep going. After that I was fine. The rest of the run was fine...I was getting hungry though. I should have tried to open up that gel again in transition, I probably would have had a better run. I made it out and back on the run and struggled up that stupid hill at the end. I saw Chad at the bottomof the hill going out on his run course so once I crossed the line I ran back to transition to get the camera (I finished the run in ~60 min)! I made it back to the line in time to get some pics of Chad finishing. Make sure you check out his blog because one of them sums up how he felt right when he crossed the line.
We found Greg and the rest of the gang after the race. We got some pictures of everyone and ate some post race snacks while we watched the awards! Two of the Irongregers placed in their age groups...congrats Iona and Julie. Chad was a little bitter he was 25 sec off of 3rd place, I'll let him cover that as well. I placed 4th in my age group...I am getting faster one year at a time!
I am a little tired and sore in some spots today. I am happy with how the race went and looking forward to the next one!

Happy Birthday Chad!!
Class was good last night, some good ole MAP intervals which I actually enjoyed last night. Weird I know. After class was over I went home and plunked down on the couch and didn't really move until I went to bed...very productive!
I have today off and a quick workout tomorrow with some pick ups to race pace. I am excited about racing, if the weather holds out it should be a fun day! I'll update on Sunday or Monday to let you know how the race goes!
Have a great weekend!

Mother Nature is teasing us...
Last night I managed to get my run in between the rain! That's 2 weeks in a row I managed to sneak out of running in crappy weather! So Tuesdays brick my legs felt great and last night not so much. After I warmed up I started to do my tempo work and I felt ok, not great, not bad. By the time I finished my run my legs were dead and I was starving. I think I am not eating enough before I go out and so I am running on empty...which is not good. I'll work on that.
Another problem in the last couple of weeks has been my asthma. It hardly ever bothers me, usually just once a year. Sometimes it is in the dead of winter and sometimes it is in the spring. This year it is the spring. This week is better than last, but it is still there none the less. Another reason I am ready for summer to be here. It normally doesn't effect my training....just a little harder to breathe that's all :)
Tonight I have bike class....I am thinking we are riding inside?????? It is already snowing west of the city...only a matter of time now!
It's Chad's Birthday tomorrow night, he is going to be an old fart too now! Ha ha. We are going to Flames Central at 9pm if anyone cares to join us. Bye for now.

Getting Ready to Race
Last night I did a brick workout. I had brought my bike to the gym and set it up in the back where Chad was powerlifting. It was nice because I could chat and visit with everyone downstairs! My bike started to make a random squeaking noise again, I can't figure out what it is! I decided to hop off my bike and finish my workout on one of the spin bikes instead. I got off work really late last night so I didn't have much time before the gym closed, but I managed to get my 65min bike in with a 15 min run. I was dreading the treadmill and how my legs would feel running after a challenging bike....I felt GRRRRREAT! I am pretty pumped at how good my legs felt which gives me a little more ease going into the race on Sunday.
On Monday night I went swimming for 45 min. After a warm up I did 15 x 100m with a 20 sec rest. It was harder than I thought it was going to be. Normally I can easily do 50m in under a min and on Monday I could barely do it in a min, usually just over. I was getting frustrated because I just couldn't push it. I have had those days before, just not with swimming. I finished up and was happy to get out of the water! I hope I got my bad day of swimming out of the way now for awhile.
Tonight I am going to run, I get to do some tempo work which should be fun! It might hurt a little since I haven't done it in awhile, but I am excited for it! I am going to take my bike in this afternoon and see whats happening. It is probably something small....turns out I have a lot to learn about bike mechanics:) Everyone starts somewhere right! Bye.

Chad's first ride
Yesterday Chad and I went out for his first ride! I finally got him up and we headed out to Crossfield. We decided to ride out to Carstairs and around on some back road (which was a little rough in some parts :) and back into Crossfield. I never really bike in traffic, we had a few intersections to go through which were pretty interesting!
On the way out to Cartairs the road was quite nice, we were riding into a head wind though! There were rumble strips all along the side of the road so we didn't have a lot of room; I think whoever was responsible for making the rumble strips was drunk because they were all over the place!
We were riding along and all I could hear was Chad yell "Lance Armstrong" and then he took off around me. He kept saying he Lance Armstronged my ass....so I did it to him! Shortly after that we were headed into an intersection, I could hear Chad yelling behind me to make the right hand turn signal (we had the right of way). Never having used hand signals...turns out I used the wrong one :) ooops! Ha ha. We made it home in one piece. Altogether we did 40 km, in 1 hr 40 min including our stops...so that's pretty good considering wind and there were some tough hills in there too! My bike started making a weird noise when I was climbing...not too sure what was going on there so I'll get that checked!
My calf is was considerably worse last night and this morning which is not good. It feels like a really bad case of DOMS. It is so tight I can feel it pulling whenever I am standing or walking :(
Last night we got home after family dinner and I was asleep on the couch at around 10:00pm. After about 2 hours Chad woke me up and told me to go to bed. I had a busy weekend of riding! Altogether 114 km, 4 hours and 40 min, that's the most biking I have ever done in one weekend! Soon enough I'll be doing that in a day!
It is Chad's birthday on Friday, so it is his birthday week. I am going to do something nice for him everyday this week. Hmmm....does doing the laundry and dishes count??? If it does I am set :) Ha ha, I don't think he'll see it the same way!

112 more days...
On Wednesday night I had a long run, the first one in a couple of weeks. I headed out for 80-100 minutes but Greg told me to back it off if my legs were tired from the weekend. So off I went, and I felt not too bad. It was forecasting rain and I think the rain cloud was following right behind me the whole way. I got 40 min out, still feeling okay, but the rain started quite a bit harder so I turned around. On my way back the pavement was soaked...but it wasn't raining anymore! How's that for luck! I was glad I turned around at 40 min, because with about 30 min left I could feel my legs getting tired....not good!
Thursday I was supposed to ride with the group. It was up in the air on weather or not I could make it there or not due to having to work late. If they were riding inside I could go but I would be a little late, however, if they were riding outside they would be long gone by the time I got there. I went home at lunch, packed up all of my stuff for class. My last client at 6:00pm called me at 6:00 to cancel. So, the group went outside....which I now could have made it for....but only had shorts and a t-shirt to wear in the little chilly 10 degree weather. I ended up going home...riding the trainer by myself :( GRRRRRR.
Friday I got a quick 40 minute run in at work...and the sun was shining. Oh how I love the sunshine! Nothing exciting to report there. I met up with Chad's parents to go over my taxes (I was having serious issues with T4's and stuff). Once we got that sorted out and no longer owe the government nearly as much money as I thought....whew....thanks Tom! I didn't have time to make it to the gym, but grumpily made my way to the pool. Swimming is the hardest of the three disciplines to stay motivated for. Maybe that's because all you do is stare at a black line on the bottom of the pool for an hour! Anyway, I finished my somewhat awkward swim and went home to sleep!
Saturday was a long ride outside and it was beautiful! I went out for 3 hours....I was fine until the last 2 km; at that point I was tired of riding uphill against the wind and my butt hurt! When I was finished I had to booker back to the city to meet up with Chad who bought his bike! He still needed pedals so we went up to see Greg at Speed Theory. Greg hooked him up and checked out his bike, he even stayed late for us....which we appreciate soooooo much...thanks Greg :)
I went out last night to celebrate my birthday with a few friends. Had a few drinks, had a few laughs, and I even feel not too bad today! I could feel my tired legs and tight calf all night...made walking around in heels a little harder than normal! My left calf is still really tight today, I am going to continue to stretch and roller....hopefully it will loosen up! Chad and I are going to take his new baby out, now I just need to get him out of bed!
